Club Information:
Students interested in the German language, celebrations, traditions, and much more, are welcome to join the German Club. Members are not required to speak German throughout the meetings (although it is welcomed and encouraged), and students do not have to be enrolled in a German class to join. Some activities include celebrating Oktoberfest with an authentic German meal at a German restaurant, making masks and playing crazy games for Karneval, watching German movies, and making club T-shirts.
About the Sponsor:
Melissa Haines has been the German Club Sponsor since 2004. It is a great club with a great group of students, some of whom are not even enrolled in a German class, but are interested in the culture, members, and activities.
"I love being the sponsor of German Club as I get to see and foster the group's enthusiasm for the German language and culture."
Highlights of German Club:
We have had a successful Oktoberfest celebration at local German restaurants (the former Wunderbar and currently The House of Gerhard in Kenosha, WI. This is probably our biggest event just a few months into the school year. We also celebrate Karneval, have a cookie decorating contest over the holidays, decorate Easter eggs/have an Easter Egg Hunt, watch German movies, participate in the International Fair, and have an end-of-the-year picnic/soccer game against the Spanish Club. Some new things for the 2015-2016 school year for us were: Participating (and winning) in Spanish Club's guacamole making contest, and having our first ever, and rather successful, fundraiser at Suzy Swirl. Also, a member made a design for T-shirts and our President put that design onto T-shirts for member who were interested!
Meeting Times:
Meetings generally take place twice a month.
